How a consultation actually works

01

Bring what you have

Tank dimensions, photos of your space, a water sample if you've already got the tank cycled, or just a starting budget.

02

We spec the build

Filtration sizing, lighting plan, heater wattage, water-change routine, RO/DI question, livestock options, stocking order. Free water test included.

03

You decide

No commission, no pressure. Buy what makes sense for the tank you actually want — or don't buy at all and come back later.

Free water testing

Bring a water sample. We'll test it free.

Bring 8oz of tank water in a clean jar. We test ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, hardness, and salinity (for saltwater) on the spot. No charge — even if you didn't buy the tank from us.

It's the fastest way to diagnose a tank in trouble — we'll talk you through what the numbers mean and what to do about them.

Open 7 days. Walk in any time.

2847 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota. Mon-Sat 10am-6pm, Sun 12pm-5pm. Plenty of free parking.

"I drove past three big-box stores to come here. Quarantined fish, real expertise, and they remember my tank from visit to visit."

"Finally a fish store where the staff knows what they're talking about. Marcus talked me out of buying fish that would've died in my tank. That's integrity."

Setup consultation FAQ

Will you really refuse to sell me fish that won't work in my tank?
Yes. We'd rather lose a $30 sale than have you replace a $200 tank of dead livestock. Tell us your tank size and current stock, and we'll tell you honestly what fits and what doesn't.
Is saltwater really too hard for a beginner?
No, but it's harder than freshwater and the equipment costs more upfront. Plan on $500-800 for a nano reef, three to six months to feel confident, and a willingness to learn salt mixing, RO/DI, and a refractometer. Free consultation any time.
Do I really need RO/DI water in Sarasota?
For a reef tank, yes. Sarasota tap has chloramines and meaningful TDS — both kill corals and stress sensitive fish. For most freshwater community tanks, dechlorinator is fine; for soft-water species or planted setups, RO/DI helps a lot. We sell units and can demo before you buy.
Do you charge for setup advice?
No. The aquarium setup consultation is free, walk-in or by appointment. Bring your tank dimensions, photos, and a water sample if your tank is cycled — we'll do free water testing too.
Do you offer aquarium maintenance or cleaning service?
No — we're a retail and advice shop, not a maintenance company. We stock every supply you'd need for DIY maintenance and we'll talk you through your routine for free. For full-service maintenance, we can recommend reputable local providers.

Stop in and see the quarantine room.

Walk-in advice is free. So is the water testing. Bring your tank dimensions, photos, or a water sample.
